You Know...
- The
fastest land mammal is the cheetah, who can reach speeds of over
70 MPH during a chase!
- The
largest mammal is the blue whale. An adult can weigh over 250,000
pounds!
- The
temperature at which the eggs of some reptile species are incubated
will determine if the offspring are males or females!
- The
normal body temperature of dogs and cats averages 101.5 degrees
Fahrenheit. This explains why they keep our laps so warm in the
winter!
- Some
of the bones in a bird's body are hollow (they're called pneumatic
bones). This helps them fly because pneumatic bones are lighter
than regular bones.
- Many
animals have teeth that grow throughout their lives, including
rabbits, hamsters, gerbils, mice and rats. They file these teeth
by chewing on things. Sometimes they need to be trimmed by your
veterinarian if they get too long.
