Do I Look Fat?

Obesity is one of the most common health problems facing dogs and cats today. With so many pets living “the good life” – sedentary indoor lifestyles with too much food, treats and/or table scraps – they easily put on extra and dangerous pounds.

Dogs and cats that are overweight face serious medical problems. Obese cats are at high risk for diabetes and liver disease. Dogs that are overweight face problems with arthritis and heart disease. Overweight pets also have a shorter lifespan!

If you are not sure if your pet is overweight, a easy way to check is to feel the ribs. The ribs should be easy to feel, without having to press hard. If you cannot feel the ribs at all, your pet is obese.

If you think that your pet is overweight, make an appointment with your veterinarian. Some medical conditions can resemble or cause weight gain. Obesity is a common health problem that is preventable and treatable. Help your pet stay happy and healthy!
