The Animal Doctor - Services

Small Animal Medicine

Our veterinarians recommend wellness visits one to two times per year based on age. These visits typically include a thorough exam, canine heartworm test, blood profile to check internal organ function, and microscopic fecal analysis for intestinal parasites. Wellness visits allow your veterinarian to develop a picture of your pet's overall health. They are also essential in spotting problems before they become serious health issues. We require all patients handled by our staff to be vaccinated for Rabies to prevent Rabies exposure to our staff. Vaccinations are recommended according to AAHA and AVMA guidelines. We also have a full-service in-house pharmacy stocked with our doctors, commonly prescribed medications.

Exotic Pet Care

We have a special interest in small medicine and routinely see rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, and sugar gliders, to name a few. All aspects of care are provided, including client education, wellness exams, medicine, surgery, and special diet recommendations. Proficiency in exotic medicine requires extra education, special equipment, and commitment by staff.

Our complete in-house laboratory gives us rapid point-of-care abilities when treating sick or injured pets and allows us to properly evaluate every surgical case before anesthesia.

Imaging

Our high-frequency X-ray machine and direct digital computer system produce the highest quality radiographs, allowing our doctors to see fine detail and subtle changes. The Doctors and technicians are trained in several areas of specialized imaging, such as dental x-rays, endoscopy, ultrasound, and OFA x-rays.

Anesthesia

Every anesthetized patient is monitored with state-of-the-art anesthesia monitors. This allows us to constantly evaluate blood pressure, heart rate, ECG, body temperature, and oxygenation throughout the surgical and dental procedures.

Surgery

We provide all types of soft tissue and most orthopedic surgical services. If your pet requires surgery, our doctors will ensure you understand all aspects of the surgery and all options available. We take great care to ensure that your beloved pets are treated as if they were our own. Pain management is critical to your pet's recovery, so we take a proactive approach to ensure that your pet is as comfortable as possible using the most effective medications available. We employ preventative pain management strategies using local anesthetics, narcotics, and anti-inflammatory drugs. Pain medications are dispensed for all surgical procedures and dental extractions.

Dentistry

Periodontal disease is the number one health problem diagnosed in cats and dogs over four years of age. Dental disease stresses your pet's immune system and can lead to serious liver, kidney, and heart disease. We provide an extensive dental care program, including dental x-rays. When dental services are needed, we use the safest anesthesia available with advanced monitoring, ultrasonic cleaning and polishing, and fluoride treatment. Optimum dental care truly is a fountain of youth for your pet.

Integrative Medicine

The Animal Doctor is proud to offer a full range of alternative treatment modalities to complement our conventional care. Acupuncture is a gentle method of harmonizing the body's functions by inserting very fine needles through the skin at key locations and has been successful at treating various conditions, including gastrointestinal disorders, respiratory disorders, neurological disorders, musculoskeletal disorders, and skin conditions. Chinese and Western herbal therapies have unique historical development spanning thousands of years. Herbal formulas use synergistic combinations of plant substances that can often be used in place of pharmaceutical drugs. They are often used to treat various illnesses and diseases, such as joint, respiratory, or digestive problems, or to promote healthy pets' well-being.
